WHAT IS MULTIGENRE? Multigenre is a type of writing where you choose to write about a specific topic from various perspectives, and through various modes (genres) of writing. For example: If you were writing about Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, you could write: 1) A love letter to Juliet from Romeo 2) A love letter to Romeo from Juliet 3) A newspaper obituary about the death of Mercutio 4) A poem from the perspective of Juliet's mother In the above example, genres used were: letter, obituary, and poem In the above example, perspectives used were: Romeo's, Juliet's, newspaper's, and Juliet's mother's. Multigenre writing is a great way to experiment with different writing styles and perspectives. It helps students become comfortable with expressing their voice through writing. |
